India’s Deputy Chief Minister, Four Others Die in Plane Crash
On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, Ajit Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and a prominent leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was killed in a plane crash in Baramati, India. The Bombardier Learjet 45 (registration VT-SSK) operated by VSR Ventures crashed in an open field approximately 200 meters from the runway at Baramati Airport. All five people on board perished, including Pawar, two pilots (Capt. Sumit Kapur and Capt. Shambhavi Pathak), a flight attendant, and a security officer. The area was covered in dense fog, significantly reducing visibility. After an unsuccessful first landing attempt, the aircraft performed a "go-around." During the second attempt, CCTV footage showed the plane tilting sharply to the left before crashing and bursting into flames. Reports indicate that Pawar's remains were identified by his wristwatch—a tragic irony as the clock is the official symbol of the NCP. |

You guys are BOTH wrong! He was obviously hit by a train!  The fog doesn't look that thick in the video. The crash looks like 1/2 mile away, and the pictures are pretty clear. Although it IS on a potato-cam!  |

Fair point. He could have been a training captain. Yeah, but all that smoke in the area would not have helped visibility. |
