Il-112V Prototype Crashes Near Kubinka, Killing Three
An Il-112V military light transport aircraft prototype crashed near Kubinka Airfield on August 17, 2021. All three people aboard were killed. The aircraft reportedly suffered a fire in its right engine before losing control, rolling and diving into the ground. The prototype had arrived in Zhukovsky the previous week for the Army 2021 defense expo in Kubinka. It first flew in 2019 and had faced development delays, including a reported center-of-gravity problem that was addressed by adding weight at the cost of payload. Flight testing resumed in March 2021. The Il-112V was intended to replace the Russian Air Force's An-24 and An-26 transport aircraft.
