An eyewitness has recounted the fortunate survival of a pilot whose helicopter crashed in close proximity to a school in County Meath. The incident unfolded shortly after the helicopter's departure from Bettystown around 1700 BST. Unfortunately, it crashed a brief while later near a hotel that was being temporarily utilized as a secondary school. Peter Whelan, who witnessed the event, shared his account: "The pilot managed to climb down and run away from the aircraft. When he was merely 40 meters away, the helicopter suddenly erupted in flames, scattering debris in all directions." Before the accident occurred, passengers had been dropped off at the beach. Following the crash, one individual was transported to the nearby Drogheda hospital for medical attention. |
