Flight UB-103 Pilot Makes Emergency Belly Landing in Myanmar

In a remarkable display of skill and composure, a pilot in Myanmar averted a potential disaster when the landing gear of their aircraft failed, necessitating an emergency landing with no front wheels on a Sunday morning, according to an official statement.

The heart-pounding touchdown unfolded as the second instance of a malfunctioning flight within the country in less than a week. The incident involved Myanmar Airlines flight UB-103, an Embraer-190 model, which was grounded at approximately 9 am in Mandalay, a city popular among foreign tourists. All 89 individuals on board, including seven crew members, emerged from the ordeal unharmed.

A video of the incident circulated widely on social media, capturing the aircraft's graceful landing before the nose of the jet tipped over, eventually coming to a halt. The pilot's quick thinking and skill were evident as they made multiple attempts to deploy the landing gear at the front of the plane, both through the aircraft's computer system and manually. Despite their efforts, the nose wheel failed to deploy due to a "technical fault," leading to a landing on the back wheels. Remarkably, the pilot executed the landing skillfully, resulting in no casualties.

Myanmar National Airlines is dispatching engineers to Mandalay to assess the aircraft, with daily flight checks being a standard procedure. Passenger Soe Moe described a moment of concern, saying, "Smoke came out a little when we landed. All passengers are okay."

This incident occurred just days after a Biman Bangladesh Airlines plane crash-landed and skidded off a runway during a storm at Yangon airport, resulting in injuries to 11 passengers.
