A Delta Air Lines Boeing 767 aircraft was scheduled to fly from Los Angeles, California, USA to Atlanta, Georgia, but shortly after takeoff, the left engine suddenly caught fire.

The flight crew then returned to Los Angeles Airport, and the aircraft landed safely 25 minutes after takeoff.

There were no casualties in the incident.
Currently, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation.

I think fuel. The hydraulic system uses fire resistant fluid, which burns poorly due to additives. The oil will burn as well, but not usually with such a bright flame. It keeps it's properties up to 800-900 degrees F. This looks like a fuel fire. I will be curious to read the investigation. This investigation should not take 2 years, since it is such an obvious failure and it won't take much to find the cause. Probably 90 days or less for this.

It'll still take a year for them to release the final report but within a month or less they should have a report out as to what they think happened but the final report will cover how it happened and how to prevent it from happening

You got THAT right. The airline I worked at provided little bottles of Castor Oil, which everyone kept in their toolboxes. There was also milk in the vending machines. We also had a LOT of chick mechanics, so THEY were wary as well when going to the bathroom.

For those of you who have never experienced it, it burns like paint stripper if it gets on ANY mucous membrane or delicate area, like the skin on the end of your weiner, or in your eyes. Luckily castor oil or milk will kill the effect instantly, but the irritation can last for a while.
