Dead Bodies & Wreckage From TAM Flight 3054
TAM Flight 3054, a major aviation disaster, occurred on July 17, 2007, when an Airbus A320 operated by TAM Linhas Aéreas crashed upon landing at São Paulo's Congonhas Airport. The accident resulted in the tragic loss of all 187 people on board and 12 on the ground, marking it as the deadliest air disaster in Brazilian history and the deadliest involving an Airbus A320 at that time. The flight, originating from Porto Alegre, faced complications during its approach to Congonhas, one of South America's busiest airports. Investigations revealed that the aircraft attempted to land on a rain-slicked runway, which, combined with other factors, contributed to the crash. Notably, the airport's runway had been a subject of safety concerns due to its short length and proximity to densely populated areas. Investigators from the Brazilian Public Safety Ministry, with assistance from international aviation experts, determined that a series of factors led to the tragedy. A significant finding was that one of the Airbus A320's thrust reversers was deactivated, a condition known to the pilots. This, coupled with the wet runway and a high approach speed, hindered the aircraft's ability to slow down and stop. The following pictures contains some of the dead bodies recovered from the wreckage. |

Re: Dead Bodies & Wreckage From TAM Flight 3054
That's the TAM Airlines crash in Sao Paolo on 7/17/07. The plane came in much too fast and was unable to effectively brake on the rain-slicked runway. It left the end of the runway, crossed a busy commercial street and slammed into a gas station, killing all 187 aboard and 12 on the ground. Here's airport surveillance video of the crash in which visual comparisons are made between a plane landing at normal speed and the doomed plane, which whizzes into and out of the camera's range in three seconds before a massive orange glow appears on the left side of the screen. The video is in Portuguese: [nomedia]www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFLDFqZPg9o&feature=related[/nomedia] Edit: The direct link isn't working for some reason, but you can cut and paste into the address bar if interested. |
