Clean-up and Containment Helicopter Crashes at Chernobyl
On October 2, 1986, at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, in the aftermath of the catastrophic nuclear disaster that happened earlier on April 26, 1986. This crash involved a Mil Mi-8 helicopter. The helicopter was involved in operations related to the clean-up and containment process at Chernobyl. According to reports, the pilot accidentally collided with a cable that was attached to a crane near the reactor site. This collision resulted in the helicopter crashing, leading to the deaths of all crew members on board. This tragic accident was not immediately reported by the Soviet press, reflecting the general secrecy and lack of transparency of the Soviet government during that era, especially regarding incidents that might reflect negatively on its operations or image. The crash footage and details about the accident were not widely known or released until after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. The incident is distinct and unrelated to the nuclear disaster itself, occurring months later and not being a direct result of radiation or radioactive contamination. It highlights the extensive and hazardous clean-up efforts that were undertaken at the Chernobyl site following the nuclear disaster. |

Atleast this was a quicker way to die than from the lethal dose of radiation they were getting flying directly over the burning core.

Even scarier thinking of the ionising radiation flaring out of the ruins. If we had something like Geordie Laforge's visor we could actually see it... it'd be lighting up the whole sky |

Re: Clean-up and Containment Helicopter Crashes at Chernobyl
I’d be willing to bet there’s some kind of optics that would show it… we’re still not advanced enough to create Geordie’s visor yet.. if we ever make it that far… |
