Cargo Plane Crashes After Take Off in Colombia, Killing Five and Injuring One
A devastating crash involving an AeroSucre Boeing 727-200 cargo plane occurred just after its departure from the German Olano Airport in Puerto Carreño, a city in southern Colombia. The crash tragically resulted in the deaths of five crew members, with one surviving with injuries. The incident unfolded approximately 8 kilometers from the airport, during a flight that was en route to Bogotá, the Colombian capital. According to the local Civil Aviation authority, the crash happened at around 5:23 pm local time, a mere three minutes following the plane's takeoff. Onboard the aircraft were six crew members. The Civil Aviation authority confirmed that five among them did not survive the crash. Eyewitness footage, captured by Puerto Carreño resident Yurlan Falla, suggests that the aircraft may have overshot the runway during its takeoff. The video shows the aircraft barely clearing the fence that encircles the airfield, hinting at possible complications during the departure phase. An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of this tragic incident. The crash has raised concerns about aviation safety and procedures, particularly in cargo operations. The aviation community awaits the findings of the investigation, hoping to learn from this incident to prevent future tragedies. |

Re: Cargo Plane Crashes After Take Off in Colombia, Killing Five and Injuring One
On December 20, 2016, a tragic accident occurred involving an Aerosucre Colombia Boeing 727-200, registration HK-4544. The cargo plane, on a flight from Puerto Carreño to Bogotá, Colombia, with six crew members, met with a catastrophic fate during its takeoff from Puerto Carreño's runway 25 at 17:20 local time (23:20 UTC). The aircraft, laden with freight, failed to achieve sufficient altitude while taking off and subsequently broke through the airport's perimeter fences. It briefly became airborne but then lost height approximately three minutes later, eventually crashing about 5 nautical miles from the airport. Upon impact, the plane burst into flames. In the immediate aftermath, two individuals were rescued from the wreckage. However, four crew members were found deceased at the scene. Adding to the tragedy, one of the initially rescued survivors later succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. This devastating incident has prompted a thorough investigation into the causes of the crash. The aviation community and authorities are particularly focused on understanding the dynamics of the failed takeoff and the subsequent crash sequence.

Damn, and that was a jet that was designed to land/take off from shorter runways than other jet airliners! Perhaps a pilot error regarding flap adjustment? ![]() |
