We are sometimes a bit critical of the verbal commentary of persons recording video. But on this occasion I think we would have to agree that his remarks sum up the situation pretty well. :) Its amazing there wasn't a fire. Is that fuel I see pooled on the ground under the aircraft? Here's an interesting interview of a survivor who got soaked in jet fuel, and still reeked of it hours later while he was being interviewed! |

This is a close up video of the crash, taken from the cockpit of a nearby aircraft. It gives us a far clearer idea of what happened. There was no flare. IMO, that makes the theory advanced by Hogmann the one that is most consistent with what we now know. |

Re: CANADA | Delta Plane Crashes and Overturns While Landing at Toronto Airport
Well that's a great video. I do see the right wing dipping a little bit at the very end but the wing did not strike first it was the landing gear. The wing dip could have been to correct for the strong crosswind from the right which is standard procedure or it could have been the very beginning of a stall.

Re: CANADA | Delta Plane Crashes and Overturns While Landing at Toronto Airport
Its just stunning, and very sad. But seeing it helps us understand what happened. I thought the roll happened before the crash, but the video makes it clear it was after. So the plane was still sending ADS-B for the few seconds between impact and when the wing(s?) came off. Also, there is an excellent AMA on Reddit where one of the surviving passengers has answered a lot of questions. https://www.reddit.com/r/AMA/comment...ay_in_toronto/ |

Re: CANADA | Delta Plane Crashes and Overturns While Landing at Toronto Airport
It could have been so much worse. From the cockpit vid, it looks like the initial ignited fuel vapor and burning parts separated sufficiently from the cabin, that by the time the movement stopped, the liquid fuel near the cabin was able to retard flash, and FD had opportunity remove the ignition sources. Looks like a type of wreck where fueling with kerosene paid off.
