Bodies From AirAsia Flight 8501 That Crashed Into The Java Sea
On December 28, 2014, Indonesia AirAsia Flight 8501, en route from Surabaya, Java, Indonesia, to Singapore, crashed. The Airbus A320, carrying 162 people, plunged into the waters of the Java Sea, leaving no survivors. In the months that followed, the relentless search and recovery efforts managed to retrieve only 116 of the lost lives. The flight had commenced uneventfully until a glitch in the rudder limiter system compelled Captain Iriyanto to reset the aircraft's Flight Augmentation Computers (FACs). Unfortunately, the issue persisted, and during a subsequent attempt to reset the FAC circuit breakers, the autopilot and auto throttle disengaged abruptly, causing a sharp roll of the aircraft. First Officer Plesel, potentially disoriented by the sudden roll, made an overcorrection, leading to a steep ascent and eventual stall. In a tragic sequence of events, the Airbus A320 plummeted into the Java Sea, coming to rest between the islands of Belitung and Kalimantan. The cockpit voice recorder chronicled the flight's harrowing final minutes, filled with multiple alarms, including a critical stall warning. Astonishingly, no distress signal was issued. The Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT or NTSC) ascribed the calamity to a non-critical malfunction in the rudder control system, further exacerbated by miscommunication between the flight's valiant pilots.
