BAE Jetstream 3101-31 Crashes Near Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania
A catastrophic crash of a British Aerospace BAe-3101 Jetstream 3101 on May 21, 2000, near Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, resulted in the deaths of 19 people. Operated by East Coast Aviation Services for Executive Airlines, the flight originated in Atlantic City, New Jersey. On board were 17 passengers, identified as professional gamblers from Caesar's Palace Casino, and two crew members. The National Transportation Safety Board's investigation found that the crash was due to fuel exhaustion, a result of the aircraft being refueled with only half of the required 180 gallons. This revelation led to legal actions against Executive Airlines and British Aerospace and criticism of the NTSB report by Executive Airlines' CEO, who argued that other potential factors were dismissed. This crash stands as one of the most fatal involving the Jetstream 3101 model. |
