In an incident at Naperville, a suburb of Chicago, a private plane crashed into a fitness center, causing serious injuries to the pilot and his wife. The accident occurred when Lloyd McKee, 66, and his wife, Maureen McKee, 63, residents of Aero Estates, a local subdivision with a small residential airport, took off in their private aircraft.

The couple had departed from a small airstrip located just south of XSport Fitness at 2780 Fitness Drive, around noon. Unfortunately, their flight ended abruptly when their plane, identified by the Federal Aviation Administration as a Piper PA-32R, crashed through the wall of the fitness club.

Upon impact, the aircraft slammed into the roof area of the fitness center, located near the southeast corner of 75th Street and Route 59. Both Lloyd and Maureen McKee suffered serious injuries in this crash. Weather conditions were reportedly not a factor in the accident.

The National Transportation Safety Board cited the pilot's failure to abort a takeoff as the probable cause.

Their single-engine plane crashed into the roof of the XSport Fitness center at 75th Street and Route 59.

The report also cites improper annual inspection of the aircraft and a hole in the plane's exhaust pipe as contributing factors.

Officials say that a pre-flight inspection failed to notice two critical engine malfunctions, which caused the crash.
