On November 11, 2012, a serious aviation accident occurred at São Paulo-Congonhas Airport in Brazil. A Cessna Citation 525B, with the Brazilian registration PR-MRG, suffered substantial damage after it overran the runway during landing. The aircraft had arrived from Florianópolis and was making its approach to Runway 35R at Congonhas Airport. Unfortunately, the airplane was unable to stop within the remaining distance of the runway, leading to it overrunning, descending an embankment, and coming to a halt against a fence, broken into two parts.

In this incident, the pilot received serious injuries, while the copilot and one passenger sustained minor injuries. The aircraft itself was destroyed in the crash.

The investigation into the crash identified several contributing factors. A primary cause was the overconfidence of the commander in both himself and the aircraft, which led to a loss of critical risk assessment capabilities during the landing procedure. Additionally, the pilot failed to correctly identify the touchdown location and the remaining runway length, demonstrating low situational awareness and delayed reaction time. The crew's inability to properly assess available information, such as speed and runway length, led to a poor judgment of the situation and the decision not to perform a missed approach procedure.

Furthermore, poor crew resource management played a significant role in the accident. There was a failure to communicate assertively and share critical information effectively between the crew members. This lack of coordination allowed the excessive landing speed to remain unchecked until touchdown. The variable wind direction and intensity, predominantly a tailwind of 10 knots or more, also contributed to the excessive speed during landing.

Ive heard LOADS about Congonhas airport in Brazil. It's said to be very difficult to land there due to the fact the runway is so short. Many accidents have occured there.
