An Air France Airbus found itself in a collision at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport, where it clipped the tail of a commuter plane during taxiing. The smaller Comair jet displayed an abrupt swerve on its wheels, accompanied by a cascade of sparks at around 8:00 PM on Monday as the two aircraft made contact. The Airbus A380, bound for Paris, was carrying 495 passengers and 25 crew members, according to Air France. Meanwhile, the Comair jet had 62 passengers and a crew of four. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. Both aircraft's flight recorders will undergo scrutiny as part of the investigation, aviation authorities stated. Subsequently, the planes were towed to a nearby hangar for a thorough inspection by the Federal Aviation Administration. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has initiated an inquiry into the matter. In a statement, the NTSB noted that preliminary findings suggest that the left wing tip of Air France Flight 7 made contact with the left horizontal stabilizer of Comair Flight 293 while the latter was taxiing to its gate. |
