Aeromexico Plane Overshoots Runway at Durango Airport, Mexico
A harrowing incident unfolded at Durango's airport as an Aeromexico Connect Embraer ERJ-190, registered as XA-GAL, was involved in a rejected takeoff that led to the aircraft overrunning the runway and subsequently bursting into flames. The flight, designated as AM-2431, was en route from Durango to Mexico City, Mexico, carrying 97 passengers and a crew of 4. The incident occurred at approximately 15:15 local time (20:15 UTC) as the aircraft attempted to take off from runway 03 in Durango. However, the takeoff was aborted, and the plane could not be brought to a halt in time, leading to it overshooting the end of the runway. Tragically, the aircraft erupted in flames within viewing distance of the airport's apron. The impact was severe, resulting in the total destruction of the aircraft. In a fortunate turn of events, there were no fatalities reported in this terrifying incident. Nevertheless, a number of individuals on board sustained injuries, prompting emergency medical care. Some of the occupants have already provided television interviews, shedding light on the ordeal. Aeromexico Connect confirmed the occurrence of the accident in Durango and stated that they are actively gathering information regarding the incident. The local governor reported that the aircraft had been in the process of taking off when the accident transpired. Although there have been no fatalities, a significant number of injuries required immediate attention and care. A subsequent inspection of the runway revealed that both engines had detached from the aircraft and were located off the right-hand side of runway 03. The aircraft had come to a halt beyond the runway's end, signifying the extent of the incident's impact.
