Re: Aeroflot Flight SU-1492 Bursts into Flames, Crashes in Russia
From what i've read about the crash, plane was struck by lightning after takeoff, which disabled their radio comms. The had no way of telling the tower their situation. Also they didn't dump the fuel and landed heavy, hence the inferno. Lack of communication kinda explains the absence of fire department upon landing.

Re: Aeroflot Flight SU-1492 Bursts into Flames, Crashes in Russia
The wings are fuel tanks, so the second bounce probably drove the struts up into the wing, opened up the fuel tanks (which were all full) and lit everything off. I have to say, there has been some AMAZING videos come out of this accident. I saw one on TV where they were filming the fire right outside their window. (Probably a DR member - "WOW, I bet Thrumpkins will write a REALLY funny title for THIS one! I hope I survive to read it!") |
