horrifying, isnt it!? im interested in seeing who knew this and who didnt...i wasnt taught anything about this so i just went off what i heard which was that the shuttle exploded. it wasnt until i learned more about physics, then (as an adult recently) re-watched the incident that i realized there was no explosion.  |

Great post! I was always under the impression that their death was quick because Of an explosion. I really do hope that the astronauts were unconscious during there free fall.

fuck, so do i.  i cant imagine a minute plus of free fall knowing there is nothing you can do and no fail safes. to a degree, i assume that any astronaut (even if you are a civilian passenger, you are taking on astronaut duties) would understand that death during liftoff or re-entry is a huge possibility and will happen to some astronauts at some time during the history of space travel (no rocket is 100% safe ever, really)...but i wouldnt have thought that free fall from over nine miles up, possibly conscious, would have been the fate of any of them. fuck... that horrified me a bit to learn. i cant even imagine....and as their loved ones watched... just.. wow..

i couldnt agree more. all in the name of science and space travel...a very noble cause to die for but still... fuck me.. what a horror ride that would have been in they were conscious. to be that excited to get to see your dream of space flight.... then to suddenly realize that your dream cost you everything.. fuck.. ...
