WWII - Holocaust - Krakow Ghetto

The Jewish Ghetto in Kraków (Cracow) was one of the five main ghettos created by Nazi Germany in the General Government during their occupation of Poland in World War II. It was a staging point to begin dividing "able workers" from those who would later be deemed worthy of death. Before the war, Kraków was an influential cultural centre for the 60,000-80,000 Jews that resided there.

Re: WWII - Holocaust - Krakow Ghetto

18/11/1939

An announcement ordering Jews in the Krakow region to wear an armband with the Star of David. "Any Jew above the age of 12 has to wear an armband. A Jew is:
1. anyone who is or was of the Mosaic faith.
2. anyone whose mother or father is or was of the Mosaic faith.
Everyone is required to wear an identifying mark in the form of an armband with a blue Zionist star. The enforcing agency will be the Jewish Council."
Signed: Wachter, Governor

Re: WWII - Holocaust - Krakow Ghetto

Good pictures! Y'know, in Krakow there's a cafe just off like the main street that hasn't been touched since the war - all the plaster work's gone to shit and stuff and it really old and falling-to-bitsy... I had chocolate cake in it... How informative is that?!

Re: WWII - Holocaust - Krakow Ghetto

Yeah, I think I have one somewhere... I'm shovelling cake down my neck in it... Sure it can be edited! Will have a look for it after...
Yeah, I mean Warsaw's pretty much untouched in parts but then they went and rebuilt the ghetto so you lose a bit of the feel for originality... Still, mustn't grumble!

It really isn't a sight anyone wants to see! Anyway, I haven't looked for it yet but when I can be bothered you may have it. And then you will run away quickly!
