Excellent post. Just imagine if the Cullinan was auctioned off and the proceeds used to provide medical care and food to some of the African people. That money would go a long way provided it was distributed by the Red Cross or something and not the corrupt government or diamond mine officials.

here's one i set a short while back....not quite in the league of the ones mentioned above but still a beauty 8.8ct, D colour, internally flawless... sold for a cool £880 000... it was a good day at work for sure.....i sweated A LOT when setting it....even though it's difficult to crack a diamond, especially a flawless stone it's still nerve wracking when i have to hammer metal over the edge of something that costs so much... it was just a shitty simple setting as the client was headed off on their yacht for summer and wanted to take it with them.....which means we'll be re-designing the setting and remounting the stone again soon  · |

my employer was in antwerp on a buying trip last week and told us that he saw (and was offered) a 7.something carat vivid blue diamond.... price $10.7million.... ....per carat!!!!  |
