Transmission/powerline maintenance and inspections. He uses the wand in his hand to bring himself to the same electrical potential as whats running through the line. As he brings it closer you can see it arc from the line to the wand. And because he's wearing that Faraday suit - he is safe and can touch the line. |

then why do hot air balloons burst and light up like the 4th of july when they run into them? guess i'll never understand electricity, but i can flip a breaker and use the outlets just fine. yep just fine and dandy.  |

the rigger uses faraday suite and other stuff to avoid currents running through him. The balloon doesn't do those precautions gets lot of current, hence intense heat.
