Wave on an Underwater Lake

This is pretty cool

During the Deep Slope 2006 Exploration, the Alvin submersible dive scientist observed an extraordinary sight. Listen to scientist Harry Roberts, Mandy Joye, and Gavin Eppard as they witness an underwater wave pass across the surface of a Brine Lake, at the interface between the 'lake' and overlying ocean. The wave is caused by pressure exerted by the ALVIN Submersible as it sits atop the 'lake' at a depth of approximately 2330 meters (7644 feet). Video courtesy of Expedition to the Deep Slope,

Re: Wave on an Underwater Lake

This must be far too advanced for my simple brain. Someone will have to explain.

Re: Wave on an Underwater Lake

i thought i already explained this?!?!?!

ok here goes for you bootsycollins

a wave on an underwater lake occurs because of the brine and mixture of salt,

"Brine pools are large areas of brine on the ocean basin. These pools are concentrations of water having an extremely high salinity as compared to the surrounding ocean, caused by the motion of large salt deposits through salt tectonics. '

so the water in the underwater lake is slightly heavier then surrounding water, lighter water with immense pressure forces it to create a wave..

its like pouring water over oil, you'd basically see the same result.
