I was night fishing for horn-pout with my teenage nephew & his gf on a small wooded peninsula near a large pond many years ago. As we we trekked through the dark towards our fishing spot, we saw a lone baby opossum perched in the branches of a large bush. It hissed and spit at us through the flashlight beam and flashed its many formidable looking teeth at us as the gf got close and went, "awwww! so cute!" She didn't dare "boop!" it though however much she wanted to because she was sure she'd lose it at the knuckle if she did, considering how fearsome it was (or tried to be). We quietly left the lil fella to sputter, puff and continue to threaten behind us in the dark.

I learned years later that opossums aren't particularly strong or aggressive biters and it's all show. Also, they can't contract rabies, they eat MASSIVE amounts of insect and small rodent pests, and they're actually quite gentle, despite the toothsome bark with no bite. Plus they're the best single moms of the animal world (as the video above shows). Anteaters, on the other hand. Well, it's more a family affair!

I didn't know that. Like snakes, possums seem to be a good thing to have around.
