Re: VIDEO: LIGHTNING STRIKING WATER

very cool videos.

water doesn't conduct electricity.
since when? time to go back to the school books for you. if water didnt conduct electricity, people wouldnt die when they drop toasters, radios, etc into a bathtub while they're sitting in it.

NAH BRA. the water molecule is made of 2 Hydrogen atoms covalently bonded to an Oxygen atom...there are NO free electrons or ions...and the water molecule is electrically balanced Since electrical current is defined as the number of charges (ions or electrons) passing a point per unit time...then there can NOT be any charge flow in water...that simple...water does not conduct electricity! It is dissolved minerals in water that conduct electricity. try committing suicide with a radio in a bathtub full of Aquafina, doesn't work very well.

Correct. Distilled water does not allow for current flow.

So where does this fit into the context of these videos? This video is only to show that lightning does strike large bodies of water. It is not meant to be a treatise on the properties of electric current flowing through differing materials.

I'm happy for you that you went to school and learned this stuff. But rather than hijacking someone else's thread, I think you need to start one of your own, pertaining to the topic of which you've brought to our attention.

we've become a little bit pedantic here
