Unicorn Pup ♡
Meet Narwhal the puppy, and his adorable disfigurement. Rochelle Steffen founded Mac's Mission nearly eight years ago and, since then, the focus of the nonprofit rescue has been on dogs with special needs. The latest puppy brought to the mission has been a viral – and adorable – sensation. The 10-week-old Narwhal has taken social media by storm. The puppy, who Steffen believes is a Dachshund-mix, has a small tail growing out of its head. He was found "in rural Missouri" with a larger dog on Friday and brought to Mac's Mission on Saturday, Steffen said. "I saw the picture and I almost didn’t believe it was real," Steffen told USA TODAY. "When I saw him Sunday morning, I got excited. He was the cutest thing you’ve ever seen, and he was so happy." Steffen took Narwhal to Cape Small Animal Clinic to be examined. Dr. Brian Heuring, who has been a veterinarian for 16 years, told USA TODAY he's never seen a puppy like Narwhal. He said the tail is likely a congenital defect. Those usually manifest in dogs as cleft palates or extra toes and causes can range from environmental factors to toxins the puppy's mother may have been exposed to, he added. "The reality is, a lot of times we never know what causes this and we’ll probably never know," he said. As of Wednesday, Heuring said, there's no medical reason for Narwhal to have the tail removed. Steffen said the tail doesn't have any bones or anything connecting it to Narwhal's skull. Heuring said Narwhal is an "outstanding puppy." "I think this puppy has the opportunity to show people that being unusual is OK," he said. "He can go into schools and hospitals and show people it’s OK to be different." ♡ PS, his full name is "Narwhal the Little Magical Furry Unicorn"; and no, it doesn't wag. |

Re: Unicorn Pup ♡
So, he’s a butt face? What an odd deformity. I would have it removed, just for the fact that having something in your face all the time is generally annoying. |
