Tropicana Rotterdam
Thanks. Here is more info from Dutch WIKIPEDIA entry: Tropicana was a leisure resort on the Maasboulevard in Rotterdam in 1988 commissioned by Center Parcs (the former owner) built. [1] The components were: Tropisauna Beauty & Thermae Center Aqua Sana Partycentrum 'Ornament' Dance Club Tropicana The business units were all under the same management, but operated independently. Each business had its own function and points (to) at different target groups. History [ edit ] Construction took approximately one year. The aim was to give people the chance to enjoy a day of a subtropical paradise with no accommodation costs. At the opening this pool was the largest of Center Parcs. In 1989 Center Parcs was taken over by a Scottish brewery . It said that the business formula of Tropicana not fit within the concept, it lacked stay accommodation. Also had the hospitality industry in making the complex with too much competition from the city. The business has already been offered for sale in 1990 and sold in 1993 to a private catering entrepreneur. Over the years, this new owner alterations and changes have been made so that the original concept to a large extent has disappeared. At the beginning of the new century, there was a move from the pool to another part of Rotterdam. These plans are not implemented. In April 2007 Tropicana came into disrepute because both the province of South Holland (responsible for the inspection of pools in the province) and the Royal Dutch Swimming Federation found that the pool was lacking in many areas. The private owner of the bath was a penalty imposed 80,000 euros if the defects could not be restored. [2] On August 29, 2010, the doors of Tropicana as subtropical swimming pool closed. The complex would be renovated internally and in September or October 2011 opening as "trendy nearly dry event complex". [3] [4] The property would remain, but the water park was terminated after 22 years. In April 2011, however, it became known that Tropicana is still no event complex: There was filed bankruptcy. On October 20, 2012 it was announced that the property in 2016 place will make for senior housing. According to the plans the existing building still time available for temporary housing. Since early 2013, there are several entrepreneurs actively to breathe new life Tropicana. There is a proposal to amend the zoning to build senior housing. This zoning will take approximately 5 years. In this period between the current business going Tropicana reallocate to mushroom farm, stadskas and hospitality. [5] [6] [7] . |
