Re: Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum

I need my ticket.
It's a creepier place without the fake haunting. I go to all sorts of places that are supposed to be haunted and I have never seen squat. That isn't to say it's all hooey as I do not know but until I see something myself......

But that said, this place is different. You can stand in a hallway where the floors are worn from decades of people shuffling their feet and it feels like they are still there. You can almost see them. You can sit in one of the rooms and get a sense of what it was like for the person in that room.

I'm planning on an all nighter soon. They pretty much allow you to go wherever on one of those.

I did one at the prison and while interesting, it's not the same.

Even walking through where you know someone was murdered isn't as creepy as the hospital.

Re: Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum

This is a photo I took while at TransAllegheny Lunatic Asylum last year with a forward Looking Infrared Camera (FLIR). I use FLIR camera at work and had it with me when I went on guided tour of the facility. The heat pattern of people are clearly different than the ghostly images in blue/purple.
My FLIR camera shows subtle differences in heat accurate to 1/10th of 1 degree.

Re: Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum

I went there for an overnight a few years ago. There were only 10 of us and the tour guide let us loose,so I wound up alone, which you shouldn't do when ghostie hunting.

I kept having panic attacks because of the layout of the Asylum, and every time I did, I wound up in the Lobotomy recovery area (I still have no idea how to get there).

The place is so cool. It's shame that there is damage from the local Police department using it to play Paint Ball before the current owner bought it.

I know you posted this almost a year ago but I have a question. I've been to a lot of places that claim to be haunted and I've never seen squat. I do believe that if there is anywhere that might be it is this place. It has a vibe like no other place I've been.

I've had tour guides show me pics they have taken. (after I gave a nice tip LOL). Your camera......it appears the blue figures are further away. Would this not happen normally?

Re: Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum

I’m in no way a “ghost hunter”. I do like historical sites and this place has an immense amount of history. A lot of brutal, tragic and heart wrenching history as well. The site happens to sit on 666 Acres and tens of thousands (if not more) people died there.

The infrared photos I took there are disturbing, and to answer your question John, yes the blueish figures are smaller but they were farther away than the heat signatures of the women close to me when I took that photo.

I agree that the place is much creepier without the cheesy tour guides or ghost-hunter types. You can actually feel the suffering that occurred within those walls. Knowing the documented history of people herded like cattle, getting icepicks run through their eye sockets into their brain is chilling. One doctor is recorded performing over 200 of these barbaric procedures in a 10 day period. 40% of them died as a result! The others that survived basically had scrambled brains in their frontal lobes.

I’ve explored this site several times and would definitely recommend it. Also wanted to add the rumors of the tunnels are 100% true. I’ve been in them, but I also want to warn anyone going in that it’s extremely dangerous. We sunk into fine silt that has seeped in from the crumbling limestone walls nearly up to our waist. We got light headed probably due to lack of oxygen in the tunnel and it made it very difficult to get out. I would not go into the tunnels again. The tour guides will not tell anyone about them for that very reason.
