Tiger Fish
These are often posted online as the "world's largest piranha" due to their fearsome teeth. Though tigerfish is a common name for vvarious fish from different families. the ones below are from the family Alestiidae Several species in the genus Hydrocynus of the family Alestiidae are called "tigerfish" and are particularly prized as gamefish. These African fish found in many rivers and lakes on the continent, and are fierce predators with distinctive protruding teeth. The two most common species and probably most recognisable in Southern Africa are the Goliath Tiger (Hydrocynus goliath) which is found in the Congo River system being the largest of the family. The second largest and the southern-most species is the Tigerfish (Hydrocynus vittatus) commonly found in the Zambezi River and in the two biggest lakes along the Zambezi, being Lake Kariba in Zambia and Zimbabwe and Cabora Bassa in Mocambique. The fish held by the black guys is Goliath Tiger from the Congo River, and the white guy is holding a Tigerfish from the Zambezi River |
