Bear cubs are very curious and do whatever the hell they want. They will come right up to you and try to climb your leg. Mother bears don't want anything to hurt their cubs, so they will attack anything that is a threat. You being near, or touching her cub is a threat. What do we know? That bear cubs are inconsiderate assholes. |

The times I've seen mother black bears attack usually is when the cubs are in proximity, or people are eyeing either the cubs or the mother directly and challenging them as such. Usually, if you are walking away calmly and ignoring both her and the cubs, they seldom attack. Grizzlies, on the other hand... |
