A team of biologists catalogued 31 species of the snail genus Plectostoma from Malaysia, Sumatra and Thailand.

Ten of which were new to science. But the snails live on limestone hills mined by cement companies, which threaten to destroy the snails and their habitat along with them.

Dressed in shells of neon orange, lilac and crimson, the snails dazzle the eyes. They flaunt all shell-coiling rules, by having very irregularly coiled and ornamented shells, making them look like microjewelry.

With so many species disappearing on the planet at a faster extinction rate than any other time, to see some new ones discovered is a cheering sight..

i have snails in my front yard after it rains (only after it rains)..... so whenever it rains we feed them fish food
they love it and the kids get to see the "gathering"

I've always loved snails.
Being a child of the 80's, I suspect it's due to the Racing Snail from "Neverending Story"
