The 500-kilometer (300-mi) Tōkaidō Road, which runs between Nihonbashi bridge in Tokyo and Sanjō Ōhashi bridge in Kyoto, served as Japan's most important transport artery during the Edo period. During its heyday in the 17th to 19th centuries, the road was one of the busiest highways in the world. In those days, it typically took travelers about 10 to 12 days to walk the route, weather permitting.

they do have horses in Japan, i read an article saying they found archaeological remains of horses in japan from the neolythic era. so not sure when horses got introduced to those islands

They used to have horses/donkeys , but unfortunately, they discovered fajitas at some point in time.

This was taken in 1865? Its amazing that they went from this to a world power in something like 50 years. Yeah, exactly 50 years later they won a war against Russia, one of the western worlds titans at the time...
