Spider Eating Snake

Hi ladies and gents, came across this while casually looking for a new spider enclosure for my lil one.
Hope no one has posted this yet.

Cairns man Ant Hadleigh photographer this creepy encounter in a friend's backyard on Wednesday.

He told ninemsn he spotted the brown tree snake snared in the golden orb spider's enormous web.

"The snake was probably a few feet long and the spider about the size of your hand," Mr Hadleigh said.

Mr Hadleigh, who runs rainforest tours in Cape York and his own kitesurfing business Australian Kite Surfari, said he had witnessed some amazing things in the tropics but this took the cake.

"It's definitely one of the most interesting things I've seen. I never would have thought that the web would have been strong enough to hold a snake that size," he said.

The backyard battle lasted several hours before the snake finally succumbed to the spider's deadly venom, he said.

"The snake kept on trying to reach up and attack the spider and every time the spider would just run up to the top of the web."

"You could see the spider just chewing into the snake and the part the spider was eating had gone all black. It was pretty disgusting."

Re: Spider Eating Snake

WOW! That is cool, i also thought the web would have snapped or something. Goes to show just how strong spider webs are in proportion.

Still, as cool as this is, if i ever see a spider like that going up my bedroom wall, i will be pulling out my size 11's (12's for people in the USA), and smooshing that son of a bitch.

Nice pics. Poor snake.

Oh my god man... That's just a little bit terrifying. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Snake eating Spider instead? I think I would die if I encounter one of them

Those kinds of spiders are actually pretty common up north.

Re: Spider Eating Snake

Had one in my yard about two weeks ago. Hit it with a lump of timber.

Here's one eating a bird

Hard to tell from just the picture, more than likely a common tree snake.
