That guy on the bike is headed right for a hill and he doesn't even know it... Random sink holes would be catastrophic. Think if you were in your house and you were at the center of one, the middle just sinks and the house falls slowly then as it catches the edges of the ground that only sinks a little catches the base of your foundations and the middle keeps going deeper to a finer point and gravity just makes your house collapse almost as if imploding. speculation-- sociologist, not physicist, geologist, or architect.
