Something Crawling Out of a Dead Mantis

Let's start Tuesday morning with a strange video from the Middle Kingdom. On the video, something black crawls out of the mantis carcass. It turned out that this is just a worm-parasite "Hairy", which is extremely dangerous for carriers.

Entering the body in the form of a millimeter larva, it does not pose a threat, but when the parasite grows, it destroys its host from the inside.

Re: Something Crawling Out of a Dead Mantis

I've never seen anything like that before. It was disgusting as hell, but also one of the prettiest things I've ever seen.
When I used to draw more, probably like 90% of what I would draw were forms like that--they even moved that way in my head.

Of course you must know about cordyceps fungus right?

As I’m literally on my way to say I’ve never seen anything like that either. That poor mantis ): disgusting.

It's called a horse hair worm. It preys upon all types of arthropods and can infect humans as well. However symptoms in human hosts typically resemble a bad patch of dry skin. Nothing as theatrical as what comes out of shellfish and insects.
