If its bore diameter is over 0.50", it'd be categorized as a "destructive device" by the BATF. That means you'll have to get either a Type 9 or Type 10 FFL just to be able to possess it. So you're probably wise to keep it concealed because all FFL holders are subject to rather nasty search provisions. As a Type 9 or Type 10 FFL holder, you surrender your 4th Amendment (search and seizure) rights at your licensed premises. The law allows the BATF to inspect your records and inventory once every 12 months without any cause, and at any point during the course of a bona fide criminal investigation (18 U.S.C. sec. 923(g)). They may inspect without warning during business hours. So mum's the word, cannon cock. Because God-forbid your papers aren't in order and they'll have to confiscate it.  |
