In November 2010, Shanghai Zoo said its keepers were using a roughly 4-foot-long toothbrush to clean the teeth of its three hippos. The brush replaced a broom previously used for the task. Zoo officials said fruit and vegetables served to the captive animals could lodge between their teeth, unlike the grass eaten by hippos in the wild. Visitors could watch the cleaning three times a week.

During one session, a keeper crouched on the edge of an outdoor pool and scrubbed inside a hippo's open mouth with the long wooden-handled brush. She also reached into the animal's mouth by hand as visitors watched from a nearby wooden footbridge.

Aaaww, the hippo looks so content! Now all we have to invent anymore is a king-size xylitol chewing gum for hippos

Ha, cool

[Azimuth]

Aww looks like he (or she) likes it. So it's pretty much a two by four? Haha cute thing.

Had to come check this out again. That last photo is adorable.

Very nice. The last pic the hippo seems to be smiling about the whole experience. They really do seem to enjoy it
