A Serial Killer Arsonist
A judge in Onondaga County (New York) said that the "reign of terror" by Shirley Winters, a woman described as an arsonist and a serial killer, was completed. "It's really the face of evil on this grandmother that we saw in court this morning," said the judge after Winters pleaded guilty to the murder of one of his son, 27 years ago. Winters, 50, has agreed to plead guilty and admitted that she had "deliberately tried to seriously injure" his son Ronald, 5 months, where it had choked November 21, 1980. In 2007, Winters was charged with second degree murder after investigators have exhumed the body of the infant. Dr. Jumbelic, the county medical examiner, has determined that Ronald had been strangled and had not - as was thought at the time - was the victim of the syndrome of sudden infant death. Winters also pleaded guilty to the murder of Ryan Rivers, 2 years, she has drowned in the bathtub of his grandparents, whom she visited in 2006. It was then found by accident. In exchange for the admission of guilt on these 2 murders, the authorities in Jefferson County have agreed not to charge Winters murders of his 2 other children in a fire in 1979. The judge added that "Ms. Winters is a rare crime, both serial arsonist and serial killer. She felt pleasure by lighting fires and killing children." Since 1979, Winters has been linked to 17 arson in the house where she lived or those of family members. She was convicted of arson in 1997 and spent 8 years in prison for having burned down the house of his own mother. Winters faces up to 25 years imprisonment for the murder of his son Ronald and 20 years for the murder of Ryan Rivers. This means it will be released after spending 17 years in prison. · |
