Charged with five murders so far. Three of the five women he is accused of killing had been partly dismembered after death and "body parts had been removed," according to the arrest/search warrants.

The warrants, were written in late April and early May during the investigation into the murders of Katherine Hall, 30, in 1999; Johnnie Mae Williams, 45, in October; and Donna Bennett Johnston, 43, in February.

Photographs of Williams were in the house, according to search warrants.

In addition, the warrants led to eight pages of clippings about LSU student Carrie Lynn Yoder, 26, who is among five women whom Derrick Todd Lee is accused of murdering in the area's second serial-killer case.

Gillis was booked April 29 with first-degree murder and with ritualistic acts in the deaths of Williams, Johnston and Hall. He has since been booked with two more murders; his attorney and his girlfriend, Terri Lemoine, said he has confessed to a total of eight.

Search warrants and associated documents show that within an hour after Gillis' arrest, police had seized newspaper clippings, cutting tools, books and photos.

Lemoine said the books — "The Blooding," "The Hillside Strangler," "Alone with the Devil," "The Silence of the Lambs," "Son of Sam, "Cops and Robbers," "Sudden Fury" and "An Unquiet Mind: A Memoir of Moods and Madness" — were her mother's.

"I tried to tell them that, but they didn't listen," she said.

The warrants describe dozens of confiscated items, including seven saws, three kitchen knives, two hacksaws without blades, a 14-inch bayonet, an ax and a machete with a red and black handle.

Also taken were three plastic zip ties. After his arrest, Lemoine said, he told her that he strangled Williams with a zip tie. One search warrant said two of the victims had marks around their necks "similar in appearance to that of plastic tie wraps."

Other items include six Playboy Pocket Playmate books, 14 condoms, a wood club, a digital camera and several computers.

In a search after detectives had interviewed Gillis, detectives took a bayonet, two pieces of shoe molding, a computer scanner, a cooler and three kitchen knives, a second warrant said.

The third warrant let authorities seize Gillis' 2002 white four-door Chevrolet Cavalier. It says the car contained "trace evidence from a homicide," but does not specify the evidence.

The head of the task force that investigated the killings, Lt. Col. Greg Phares, declined to comment about the warrants.
