If they are pleasantly psychotic there's no need to intervene, plenty of people live this way..but if they are a risk to themselves or to others they may be scheduled and be given medication against their will (IMI depo shot)
Or a CTO in the community. Usually they settle and become compliant with meds again..some will never, dependent on circumstances..

I love pleasant Schizophrenics..having a psychosis, hugely interesting stories, delusions..behaviors..

If people in the UK with mental illness refuse to take their medication daily or aren't able to remember it, they get a depot injection into their bum that lasts for 2-3 weeks. If they don't turn up for the depot and become erratic and dangerous to themselves or others then they are detained (sectioned) under the mental health act in a hospital and given a depot whether they like it or not. Its not a great system or solution but that's just how it goes. I'm a voice-hearer which is part of my psychotic depression but I take my tablets each day for my own quality of life. I'm also a qualified psychiatric nurse so I can see this from both sides.
