I think those are chemical reactions (not electricity) based on the smoke alone. But I have no idea what one would add to salsa to do that.

There is no electricity in this bowl. "Pepper" he steered it with some alkali* metal powder and watch it pops.

* Lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, caesium, and francium.

Probably sodium as that is the cheapest.
