Poveglia Island , Venice Italy
Poveglia Where is it? The Venetian lagoon, Italy it’s haunted! According to legend it was used to isolate plague victims during Roman times, and then as a giant Black Death grave in the Middle Ages. As if that wasn’t scary enough, it’s also home to spooky abandoned building – complete with bell tower naturally – that was apparently a mental hospital. These days it’s off-limits to visitors unless you bribe a gondolier to take you there. There are some great pictures and an article written by the photographer. http://mentalfloss.com/article/24658...sland-poveglia |

Re: Poveglia Island , Venice Italy
Great place! Many photos drew out emotions I haven't felt in a long time. I got to visit this place in the future. It's now on my bucket list lol!

Re: Poveglia Island , Venice Italy
I doubt any of us will ever make it there. The Italian Government has an incredibly strict (unless you're an American ghost hunter who can afford to pay enough) "oh no I don't think so" policy about letting civilians anywhere near that island. And the locals refuse to go near it too. Some of the fishermen claim they still pull human bones up in their nets if they get too close to the island.
