when an airplane appears to float in the sky, it is actually an optical illusion caused by a combination of elements.

First, the speed of the aircraft plays an important role.

Commercial aircraft typically fly at speeds in excess of 500 miles per hour (800 kilometers per hour).

At this speed, the movement of the aircraft is relatively smooth and appears to glide through the air.

Then comes our distance perception. When an airplane flies at high altitudes, it can be difficult to accurately estimate the distance from the ground.

Without a familiar reference object nearby, our brains are unable to determine the plane's true location, which can create the illusion of the plane hanging stationary in the sky.

Finally, atmospheric conditions can also contribute to the floating effect.

When the air is calm and no clouds or other weather disturbances are visible, the sky can appear to be a wide, empty expanse.

Also, the movement of clouds and birds reinforces the perception that the aircraft is stationary.

But in reality, the plane is in constant motion.

So the next time you see a plane that seems to defy gravity, remember that it's just an amazing combination of speed, distance perception, and atmospheric conditions that are deceiving our eyes.

My flight instructor always told me: If you are looking at an airplane and it seems like it's not moving, YOU ARE ON A COLLISION COURSE!!

Not the case here, of course, but probably because the aircraft are both headed for the same runway, in sequence, but moving at the same speeds, to accommodate flight spacing it looks like it's just floating.

It is moving.
It can be seen gaining very slight altitude,
plus very minor right-bank/tilt.

If its bearing relative to you is constant then yes, that's true. (Pardon the pun).
