Wombats are something of a scourge in Australia, where they are best known for digging the foundations out from people's homes and destroying any car that hits them on that country's dark, lonely highways. Patrick, however, who hangs out at Ballarat Wildlife Park, is the oldest wombat living in captivity. While the average wombat lives to around 15 years old in the wild, handsome Patrick here is now 27 and weighs a hefty 66 pounds. Sadly, despite his advanced years, he has never known the love of a lady, which might also make Patrick the world's oldest living wombat virgin.
Patrick weighs 30kg, likes to ride around the park in a wheelbarrow and digs exactly the same size hole every night. Patrick was pulled out of his mum's pouch on the road when he was a baby and hand reared. He was released into the wild numerous times, but each time he got beat up by other wombats and had to be brought back to the park. Patrick shares a wombat hideout with a happy family of three other wombats: a mama, daddy and baby wombat.
