I was looking forward to the, hopefully terrible, death of Zahi Hawass. He was in charge of the ministry of Historical/Antiquity research in Egypt for many years, and prevented almost everyone but tourists from getting near anything interesting there.
He hasn't died, but he did retire, and I haven't really heard about any changes for the better since unfortunately. He was especially stubborn about his limiting most access to the Pyramids, and all access to the Sphinx--Sphinx research all but proves entirely the accepted timeline's tardliness.
Someone cool though, in this field who did die kind of recently was John Anthony West--the poor little guy.
I like Randall Carlson, and Graham Hancock too--especially more recently. Carlson might even have coined the term "Neo-Catastrophism" himself. The two, together have done tons to connect the old biblical flood stories with those of North and South American natives, and other religious texts from all over the world to a comet strike in the Northwest Territories and the subsequent flooding period. There's really cool drone footage of some of the giant ripples and high water marks scarring the ground across Alberta that a huge melted river would have left behind crossing through. The type of wavy lumps you see left in sand at beaches and tide pools--only so huge, that filming them from the sky is necessary to even understand what you're looking at.
