Odessa Street Children Sniffing Glue and Injecting Baltushka, June 2006
In June 2006, homeless children and teenagers ages 11 to 17 were living in sewers, cellars and abandoned houses in Odessa, Ukraine. Some sniffed glue from plastic bags, while others injected baltushka, a homemade stimulant prepared from flu medicine containing ephedrine. The scenes include a child pressing a glue bag to his mouth behind a truck window, a boy screaming in a sewer while clutching another bag, teenagers holding syringes and several injection attempts in abandoned rooms. Other children are shown crying, lying on littered floors or asleep amid garbage. The reportage documented both the drug use and the unsafe conditions in which the children lived.

Re: Odessa Street Children Sniffing Glue and Injecting Baltushka, June 2006
Same thing in Brazil. Probably same everywhere. Sucks. There is a problem, not quite as bad, in the U.S. Some are kicked out by mom's new boy friend. Lots of reasons. If you ever meet one, have them call the Nine Line. 1-800-999-9999 They'll try to help. They can also put through an anonymous call to home. |
