shape is pretty much identical to my nikon F-50 havent used it in fucking years, would love a camera like this one though, time to start saving up. how ever i do like having a small camera to take to gigs and record bands on, i'd never take a camera like this out and about :) |

Exactly, these cameras are way too bulky to carry around, and in my opinion photos themselves are becoming less of a way to store memories now that video and storage is so cheap. Seriously, look at all those shitty dinner party photos of everyone with their 'just-take-the-fucking-photo' smiles and tell me a 15 sec panning video shot isn't infinitely better at capturing the moment.

Depends on the photographer really, if you are like " ohh just wait ....just wait a sec........I am almost ready........... o.k now everyone smile..........wait.........oh shit I forgot the flash...........ahh shit I have no more memory.....ahhh fuck can you do that again?" then ya your going to get that result. You know what is dead is the posed for photo in every regard. No one wants to have them any more and I myself having done family shoots, kid photos, school year photos, and engagement shoots never suggest or really agree to do them. It's all about a photographer that can show how people are naturally. When I do a family shoot I go and spend some time with them the day before and bring a point and shoot. I snap randomly and see how each reacts to their photo taken. I act like a kid around the kids and play and run around like a retard and let them know I am a cool guy and not to be feared. The next day where we go is where the family wants to go 99% of the time. I want them to be comfortable and myself as well. Once they start doing what families do I blend in and start to snap away. So yeah I think family shots and portraits that are done well will kick the fuck out of a 15 second pan shot any day of the week but that's just me . I could see why joe blow would like to not have to do that. I lug my 40 d around everywhere, and that includes a bracket and external flash. All together around 5 ilbs that camera is with all that attached. Photos are my passion and worth it IMHO. I hope everyone starts the trend toward video I really do cause then it will be a fuck of a lot easier for me to make a living at photos and editing. I also am getting a cannon XL-G1 though because of the video trend and will offer that soon. The fact is those cheap pieces of shit will never compare to professional gear...NEVER. You get what you pay for and although many friends scoffed at me when I paid 2000 dollars for a body only 2 years ago they also compliment me on every set of professional and personal photos I take. |

Mind you none of these are edited as they are my own personal ones. If you edit as many fucking photos as I have you tend not to care about what your own personal collection looks like or will do it when you have time. These are at either Xmas or Cdn Thanksgiving(Oct instead of Nov) but this is the way people want their photo taken and no one cares really. It is natural and they are good photos cause no one is being a douche and giving you the finger or those eyes. By the time they are realizing they are getting photographed it's too late!!

Now you sound like someone who actually understands photography and how to do it! Nice. I have a Nikon D80 and have my complaints but for the most part it is pretty kick-ass for the price. Canon has been coming out with some great SLRs too. I think it's all really a matter of preference which camera you like best. Really not a hell of a lot of diff between them once you get into that price range. However if high speed burst photography is absolutely essential to you, then be prepared to spend several hundred or even thousand extra for the same damn camera only with faster burst rate and maybe a bigger battery. And just to let you know as far as Canon Vid Cameras go... I own a Canon XL-2 and also a GL2. The XL-2 is an amazing unit! If you want to shoot in digital but have the look of film there is no better camera out there for under $10,000. It also has pretty good 24p (using a pulldown method) that is actually smooth and not too jerky. The image controls are very extensive but the only drawback... 740 x 480 standard def resolution. About the Canon GL-2... I bought this fucking piece of shit to compliment my XL-2 thinking in error that I could match the color to the XL-2. Nope! The GL-2 is a stripped down XL-2 with COMPLETELY different image controls and a really shitty fixed lens. I wasted about $2,300 on this fuckin paperweight and have regretted it ever since. The image is very fringey and the auto exposure is practically useless. The GL-2s image looks no better than some $300 P.O.S. you might buy at your local K-Mart. In fact I have a Canon ZR-100 palmcorder that routinely outperforms this over prices turd of a camera. In short, the GL-2 sucks dog nuggets! The only reason I mention this is because the Canon XL-H1 and the XL-G1 are essentially just Hi-Def versions of the XL-2 and GL-2. And they are not even true HI-Def cameras for that matter. The only real difference is the higher density CCDs otherwise they are virtually identical in features to the standard def counterparts... but a LOT more expensive. If the XL-G1 is anything like the GL-2 then you will be very disappointed. Fixed lens vid cameras are very limiting especially if you are shooting in HD. Don't know the specs on the glass in the XL-G1 but if it is the same as the GL-2 then the image will possibly not be sharp enough for HD. HD shooting requires reaaaaaaaly good lenses and standard def lenses are not suitable to shooting in HD. The Canon XH-G1 however looks to be a better design. More like the features of the larger XL-2 and XL-H1 in the smaller body of the "G" series cams. You are still stuck with the fixed lens (and add-on lenses are shitty and usually just stop your exposure down so low that you need really good lighting to prevent noisy image). But in my opinion you are better off kicking out the big bucks for the lager, more versatile (and yes, bulkier) XL-H1, where at least you have interchangeable lens capability. It's about the same price as the XH-A1 anyway. In any case, as soon as you buy it, the price will go down, a better model will come out next year and the resale value will be shit! haha! You just cant win with this stuff. |
