Nature Photos Shared as National Geographic's Best
A group of 27 nature photographs circulated together around 2008 and 2009 under a "best of National Geographic" label. The subjects include cheetahs with cubs, a crocodile lunging at a wildebeest, giraffes necking, zebras casting long shadows, a polar bear with a cub, Japanese snow macaques, whales, manatees, sea lions, herons and egrets. The landscapes and natural phenomena include the Twelve Apostles in Victoria, Australia, Fly Geyser in Nevada, an aurora, an erupting volcano, an autumn cypress swamp and a leaf reduced to its skeleton. One image digitally mirrors a reptile's eyes rather than presenting a straight photograph. Beverly Joubert took the aerial photograph of the zebra herd and its shadows. She said the image never won National Geographic photo of the year.
