Our farm was homesteaded around 1800, the same time Ohio was being mapped out and made into a state. Our farm set near the banks of Rattle Snake Creek and Paint Creek (now Paint Creek Lake), Rattle Snake being named after an old indian chief that lived in the area and Paint after the Paint Indians that inhabited most of the area. The farm was located on five roads, Snake Corners (now just Snake Rd. and named so cause of the two 90* turns on the road), Black Lane, Deer Park (at one time was actually part of an old federal highway through the area), Cummings Lane (which is now abandoned but still listed as a township road), and Hamilton Lane, which no longer exists...

My great great grandfather died on the farm, my great grandfather, and my grandfather all worked the farm. At one time we had our own blood line of certified Black Angus and had around 350 to 450 head. Those days are long gone now though, sadly, in the early 1960's the state decided to build Paint Creek Lake, which was going to be a mechanical dam/spill way flood control lake. Great grandfather fought it but in the end our farm went from 1100 acres to 650 acres, we would of had lake front property if the state hadn't forced us to sell...

Jump to 2010 and after several family problems and fighting a lot of greed my grandmother sold all 300 acres of her property to a neighbor, my cousin sold 50 of hers (she still owns about 70 acres), and we still hold 180 acres in our name.

Here are some pictures I took of the farm in late 2010 on a cold, dark, foggy winter morning...

In total we had 6 houses on the farm, now we just have one old one that is falling down. I lived back the long lane shown in the picture, that house was given away to my cousin by my grandmother forcing me to move to Florida. The house you see along side the road was originally built as a one room log cabin by our family and expanded and adden on to until it was two stories with 9 rooms and a basement.

Our farm isn't without its own ghost stories either, my grandfather and great grandfather both died in that house (and I'm sure other family as well), plus we have had two people commit suicide on the farm and one killed accidentally by a chainsaw. My mom found one of the suicides, he was a friend of ours renting a small spot from us that he had put a camper on....
