A newborn giraffe explores its surroundings next to its mother Gusti in Leipzig Zoo, Germany. The giraffe was born on Jan. 18, weighs 71 kilograms and is 1.80 metres high. It is the first Rothshild's giraffe born at Leipzig zoo.

San Francisco Zoo recently welcomed a new member to their ever growing family. Though her mother Nneka is doing fine, the 5-month-old gorilla named Kabibe (or little lady in Swahili) is being carefully cared for by her grandmother named Bawang who has assumed the role of adoptive mother for the infant. The 33-year-old matriarch of the family did the same thing for her big brother Hasani, who is now five-years-old. A statement released by the zoo says, Once again, Bawang has taken on the huge responsibility of motherhood and has set a positive tone for the troop.
