Re: Most Anorexic Woman in the World

My understanding is that severe anorexics can no longer produce the enzymes needed for digestion. I saw a tv programme about a lifelong anorexic woman in her mid-thirties who had to eat this special "food" that was already partially digested liquid because she could no longer eat anything. I think I'd just rather be dead at that point. It's so sad
Or, like Karen Carpenter, when they finally do try to recover they AGAIN take things too far by eating too much. Back when VH-1 did their Behind the Music show on the Carpenters, one of her closest friends said that Karen gained 10 pounds in one week, which is extraordinarily unhealthy for anyone, no matter what physical condition they're in. After starving herself for so long, her heart just couldn't take the strain of having such a large amount of weight put on in such a short amount of time.

Jesus Christ how is she still alive? She looks like a recently liberated Concentration Camp inmate!

Re: Most Anorexic Woman in the World

That poor woman. I am amazed she can walk, talk about will power. And for anyone to want advice to get that way?!

I couldn't find anything about her dying so I don't know.

Re: Most Anorexic Woman in the World

Eating Disorders, like alcoholism or a variety of mental disorders are a bastard to treat & resistant to treatment. They actually change the chemicals in your brain. My sister had bulimia in her teens. She's mostly better now,but even 30 yrs later still sometimes falls off the wagon. It is a disease you manage, not cure. She never got as bad as this, but at her worst was under 6 stone. At 5 foot 8,she looked pretty bad.If she's stressed, she'll stop eating or relapse. Her shrink thinks it's linked to our father's dissertion and my mother's perfectionism & high expectations(she always expected a lot of us and was a chronic dieter herself)
There used to be a pair of anorexic twins in our suburb. They were my age:in their 40s. I'd see them walking for hours in the heat, looking much like this lady. Then I noticed only one of them walking the streets. It came to light the other one had died. I moved a few streets away & for a few years I'd see the remaining sister at our local shopping centre. We'd often chat while waiting for the bus or cab,and she was the sweetest, loveliest lady. I'd encourage her to phone me if she wanted a chat but she never did. I didn't talk about her disorder, because I know from personal experience ED sufferers risk the problem of being their ED & having no other identity. She seemed to be getting better, and then suddenly againstarted going downhill. One day she wasn't there any more & I haven't seen her since.I can only assume she died. I always wonder if I could have done more, but I think after her sister's death she kind of gave up.

Re: Most Anorexic Woman in the World

Seems so easy, just eat something, but it does not work like that.
No it sure doesn't! So many ignorant and uneducated people think that way though !
