Mortuarium Schoonselhof: Abandoned Antwerp Morgue Closed in 1999
Mortuarium Schoonselhof was the morgue and forensic autopsy building at Schoonselhof cemetery park in the Hoboken district of Antwerp, Belgium. Built in the 1900s, the facility closed in 1999 with medical instruments, chemicals and other equipment left inside. The building contained two white porcelain autopsy tables beneath a surgical lamp and a cold room with 12 steel doors. Equipment included electric bone saws and drills, scissors, forceps, a scalpel, syringes, goggles and a scale. Specimen bottles, diluted formalin and other chemical containers remained in the rooms, along with an office desk and chair. A wooden coffin trough stood in a brick cellar. One box was dated June 14, 1977, showing that some of the contents had been stored there for more than two decades before the closure. No bodies remained in the facility. |

Re: Mortuarium Schoonselhof: Abandoned Antwerp Morgue Closed in 1999
that was my first inquiry, and i believe it to be in Antwerp, Belgium. ![]() on this bottle you can see where it says apotheek near the top that means pharmacy in flemish (and possibly also dutch) but under it, it says Antwerpen which is the flemish word for Antwerp. one of the biggest towns in Belgium. |
